Olaf: Getting Older
How many times have you thought, “This situations just doesn’t make sense!” This can be frustrating, especially for a person who likes knowing what is going on..... for example, me. This is why Olaf’s new song stays with me, plus the catchy tune. For those who do not know, Frozen 2 contains a new song that Olaf sings called When I am Older. Throughout the movie, Olaf is obsessed with age and maturing. Olaf is going through a forest while he is singing. There is all these weird events going on and he is of the mind that when he is older everything will make sense and seem normal. One line in the song says, “ I’ll have all the answers when I’m older.” This made me think of 1 Corinthians 13: 9-12 that says,
“For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
Here, Paul is talking about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they should work in the church. Before, I used to read this and I only thought it was talking about how we grow in our relationship with Jesus. How as we get closer, we mature and have a better understanding, kinda like how Olaf is singing about. But lately, I have really been drawn to the last part of this chapter. Paul says that right now he only knows a part of what is going on but that later he will know it all. This means he was comparing himself to a child still. I believe that he was meaning that he wouldn’t know everything until he reaches Heaven. I thought this was really cool idea. We are God’s children. We are not supposed to understand everything that is going on. We are not meant to know everything. God is our parent who is in control. He is the one who has plans and is the one who takes care of everything. It brings a whole nw clarity to being a child of God. It also explains how Jesus talks about our his burden being light when we commit to him. As parents, we expect our children to do their schoolwork, do their chores, and be children. We don’t expect them to take care of themselves, or to pay the bills. There is a difference to the weight of those responsibilities. So when you feel like nothing is going right, remember that you are the child. Tell God and listen to his response. Let his peace fill you instead of focusing on the chaos the world tends to run off of.
